This New Montrose Restaurant Is Good
I first ate at Fusion Eats, which is on Fairview in Montrose, at the end of March. I had the Mediterranean Rice Bowl with lamb, and it was good. I had not intended to eat there, but the place nearby that I wanted to eat at was not open. I later learned that it has ceased operating. The food was very good, and I liked the person who was working at the counter too.
I signed up when I ordered to join their club, and when they joined me, they sent me a coupon. More than two months later, I used the buy-one-get-one coupon today and ordered two tacos:
The BOGO coupon made it even better, but I would have been happy if I were paying it all. The Tex Mex Steak Taco (in front) and the Signature Steak Taco (behind) both are $5.50. The Tex-Mex has black beans, grilled onions, Monterey jack cheese and pico-de-gallo, while the Signature has grilled ribeye, grilled onions, ginger chipotle bbq sauce and red cabbage slaw. They both tasted excellent!
Fusion Eats is an expansion of Fusion Taco in the Heights, which opened in 2017. There is one in Greenway Plaza too. This one opened in 2018. The whole thing started as a food truck business in 2013. The owners are Julia Sharaby and David Grossman. I have never met either of them, but Grossman, who went to UT in Austin, used to work at the Gotham Bar & Grill in NYC. Fran and I loved that place a long time ago! I read a piece in the Houston Chronicle from 2013 and learned that Sharaby digs some really great restaurants, like Kiran's, Uchi and Azuma.
I am a happy customer of Fusion Eats. I have ordered to-go food twice. The inside is nice, and they do serve alcoholic beverages. I am a big fan of Mexican food, and I like their neighbor across Taft on Fairview, Cuchara. For dining out, Fran and I love Pico's and Hugo's. Fran's favorite is another part of the Ortega restaurants, Xochi. I like that one too!
Fusion Eats is good and affordable. It is in a great neighborhood, and I wish the owners the best!
