A Great Walk

Today is the two-year anniversary of my exit from the hospitals after my tragedy on 4/15/22. I came home in a wheelchair, unable to walk then. I wrote here about a fantastic walk I took in late February that celebrated my victory. There was a photo in it, but I took a better one two months later, when I walked back to "the scene of the crime" again on 4/28:

Sidney and Polk, the spot where a car hit-and-ran me, is about five miles from my house. On that second walk there, I ended up taking an Uber home instead of the complete round-trip by foot as I had previously done.

Today, I wrote an article on a cannabis stock for Seeking Alpha and decided to go for a walk, leaving at about 10:15. I didn't have a destination in mind and treated it like I used to do when I was biking kind of randomly. I walked down our street and turned on Montrose. I still didn't know where I was headed, but I crossed over Buffalo Bayou and Memorial Drive and kept walking. Then I got the idea to walk to White Oak Bayou, which I had done once before (on March 3rd, my birthday, when I walked to Mendocino Farms and ate there my first time).

In the old days, I used to ride along the White Oak Bayou trail all the way out to Antoine Drive, about a 24 mile round trip. Today's walk was a bit over 8 miles. I walked to TC Jester and then turned on Washington. I ended up eating at El Rey, on the corner of Shepherd and Washington. It was pretty good! The rest of the walk is one that I am quite familiar with, crossing over Memorial and then over Buffalo Bayou over the Jackson Hill Bridge.

Today was a fantastic hike. It reminded me of my old bike rides. While I didn't see the blue herons like I often did on my bicycle, I did see an egret:

I also heard a lot of birds and saw a bunch of pretty flowers. The walk was energizing, and it left me wanting to walk further along that bayou.
